Summary:

Here, Mel Gibson plays a reluctant Revolutionary War soldier. While some imagery is different and interesting, The Patriot falls flat on showing us anything original. I would almost venture to call this movie PatriotHeart, but it isn't as good. I can say that it did keep me interested in its 164 minute runtime.

Spoiler Warning:

There are some interesting twists in the story, which isn't always wrapped up all nice and happy, but it has to have one of the better lines in a war movie (paraphrased)- "You can't go targetting officers, there'll be chaos on the battlefield!"

If this weren't a rehash of BraveHeart, I'd like it a lot more.
